We know healthcare isn’t just about systems and services—it’s about people. As we celebrate 15 years as a healthcare marketing and PR agency, we’re putting that belief into action by giving back to the communities that inform our work every day.

Our sponsored volunteer program supports Activate Health team members as they devote their time and expertise to causes they care about. From Ryan House to other local and national nonprofits, these efforts reflect the same values that guide our healthcare marketing work with clients.

In this spotlight, we’re highlighting Activate Health CEO Sarah McLeod and her work with Arizona Autism United (AZA United), where she’s using her nonprofit healthcare marketing experience to help the organization reach more families.

Board service with a community impact

Sarah joined the AZA United board in 2024, drawn to its focus on practical, family-centered resources for individuals with autism across Arizona.

This spring, she had the chance to show her daughter what that work looks like outside of meetings and strategy planning at AZA United’s Spectrum of Dreams talent show – an annual event that celebrates performers with autism and brings families and community partners together.

“Hundreds of people came to celebrate the talent and creativity displayed,” according to Sarah. “We all left feeling part of something bigger and a positive shift happening in our community.”

The event was just one way the board contributions of Sarah’s and others have materialized to impact the community, helping create spaces where people with autism and their families are seen, supported, and celebrated.

Nonprofit healthcare marketing in action

As an agency with experience in both traditional marketing and PR, as well as nonprofit healthcare marketing, the Activate Health team collaborated to enhance Sarah’s support of AZA United’s Spectrum of Dreams event, mission, and community goals.

AZA United benefited from:

  • A clear and compelling event story and messages, meaning communications reflected both the celebration on stage and the services funded behind the scenes.
  • High-touch press engagement, including a curated, targeted media list, event listings, and coverage across local outlets.
  • Empowered partners and collaborators across the organization and community, armed with content they could share on their own channels to help extend the event’s reach.
  • A refined sponsorship and in-kind donation strategy that maximized dollars raised and deepened relationships with supporters.

The goal was straightforward: to apply nonprofit healthcare marketing best practices and connect more people to AZA United’s work, ultimately translating one evening’s celebration into ongoing awareness and support.

Why giving back is part of our work

For our team, projects like Spectrum of Dreams bridge the work we do every day with the meaningful reasons we do it. Nonprofit healthcare marketing, at its best, does more than promote an event or campaign. It helps:

  • Elevate the voices of the people and families at the center of care.
  • Build community around inclusion and support.
  • Ensure organizations with critical missions have the visibility and resources they need to grow.

As we celebrate 15 years in business, we’re grateful for partners like AZA United who invite us into their world and remind us what impact looks like on the ground – in homes, schools, and community spaces across the country.

If you’re a nonprofit or mission-driven healthcare organization seeking a partner to help tell your story and expand your reach, we’d love to connect. Contact our team to explore how thoughtful nonprofit healthcare marketing can support your next event or initiative.
